Cinematheque of Macedonia

The Cinematheque of Macedonia, built in 1976, consists of a basement, ground floor, and upper floor. The project envisions the reconstruction of part of the ground floor to enhance and refine the space for the museum exhibition. Additionally, spatial segments are defined to correspond with the historical periods of world and Macedonian cinematography, while ensuring uninterrupted use of the multifunctional space. As part of the reconstruction, interventions are made on the floor, ceiling, stairway area, and walls, and a new platform is installed in the archive. Furthermore, a partial energy-efficient treatment of the building is provided—the façade receives thermo-insulated glass panels, and new materials are applied in certain sections of the ceiling and floor. The space undergoes an acoustic treatment aligned with its purpose, the railing of the stairway core is dismantled, columns under the gallery are covered, and the wall towards the cinema hall is reinforced to improve acoustics. The video library space is redefined with the addition of a café-bar, the counter in front of the cloakroom is refreshed, and the security area is relocated as part of the ongoing reconstruction. In the existing space of the art gallery, where part of the exhibits were previously stored, a multimedia area is created—a small cinema designed for chamber screenings. Within the public sanitation facilities, a restroom for persons with special needs is planned. The project also addresses the lighting of the space.
